Beginning With Version 6.3e, Scrap Dragon Is Capable Of Uploading VIN Data To The NMVTIS Database
This article describes the necessary setup and process for collecting the data and performing the upload.
One-Time Set up to collect the VIN information.
- Create an inventory item for the auto file. Back Office; Master Files; Inventory, Inventory Master; Item Setup tab. Add a new item for autos. Designate the Unit Inventory as Vehicle ID.
- Point the commodities used for purchasing vehicles to the auto inventory item from step 1. Back Office; Master Files; Commodity; Commodity Master, Commodity Setup tab. For each car commodity, set the Sell As field to the inventory item created above.
- Currently, the Federal Law only requires reporting of the VIN. Scrap Dragon can also collect Make, Model, Year, and Body Style.
- Makes are defined with the Maintain Auto Makes option from the User Menu. You must enter the NCIC codes for each automobile make for the information to be included in the upload. The list of codes can be downloaded from www.scrap-dragon.com/TCIC_Codes.xls.
- Models are defined with the Maintain Auto Models option from the User Menu. Currently, you only need to enter the TCIC codes for the State of Texas.
- Body Styles are defined in User Definable Tables.
- You must specify the Final Disposition for each vehicle. Final Disposition codes are defined in User Definable Tables. Currently these can only be SCRAP, CRUSH, or EXPORT.
Collecting the VIN information.
- When purchasing a vehicle in scrap buying, select the appropriate commodity button. To enter the VIN info, press Edit Details to open the edit details screen. With the vehicle highlighted in the grid, press Add To Inventory. This will display a screen to enter all of the fields that can be collected on a vehicle. Repeat this process for each vehicle on the ticket.
- The vehicle information can also be added or edited in the Edit Paid Ticket screen, again using the Add To Inventory button.
Using the Collected vehicle information.
- All of the collected vehicle information can be searched using the Auto Inventory Search from the User Menu. Any criteria can be entered including partial vin numbers. Once a set of vehicles has been selected, a suspect list can be used to view the images from JPEGger. The Yard Details button on this screen can be used to enter Final Disposition and other vehicle info.
- Inventory Report 30 – Auto Inventory List can be used to print a list of purchased vehicles by Make for any date range.
- Purchase Report 8 – Tickets Closed or Paid will also show the vehicle information for any vehicles purchased, and can be run a variety of ways, including by customer for any specified date range.
